What Is Neuroplasticity?

This term describes your brain's ability to re-organize itself throughout your life. Until very recently, most researchers believed that - except for those areas that are responsible for the storing old and new memories - the brain gradually loses its ability to change its structure.

Decades of research have now shown that substantial changes continue to occur in your brain throughout your life and that these changes can profoundly alter the pattern of neuronal activation in response to experience. According to the theory of neuroplasticity, thinking, learning, and acting actually change the brain's physical structure – or anatomy –as well as its functional organization – or physiology – from top to bottom.
